ASUU UNIBEN CHAPTER SPEAKS ON RUSTICATION OF “UNIBEN 5”

The Academic Staff Union of Universities, Uniben issued a statement to the general public, describing the rustication of the uniben 5 as imperious. In the statement, the Union described protests, as justifiable instruments in any democratic setting for resisting and unjust laws and policies.

It described the protest by the students of the University as peaceful and appropriate, following the increase in fees and charges on them.

“ASUU as a Union is unequivocally apposed to increases in fees and charges which characteristically deny the poor and underprivileged masses of Nigeria access to quality education, which ordinarily is a RIGHT for every Nigerian Citizen”.

The union made it known that, it believes that, the place of introducing enormous and outrageous charges on its poor citizens, leaders should take advantage of the abundance of its human resources and make satisfactory investments in education.

In the statement, it was also made known that the Union is in talks with the administration with a view to arriving at a peaceful resolution of the matter to ensure industrial harmony in the University.
