Jubilation In Lagos As Gov. Ambode Approves 30% Christmas Bonus For Workers






In preparation for the yuletide, Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode has approved the payment of 30 percent of basic salary to all commissioners, political appointees and public/civil servants as an
end of year bonus.

According to the state government, the gesture is in appreciation of the dedication and commitment to duties of all public/civil servants in Lagos State.

In the memo, the state government said expressed hope that public/ civil servants in the State Public Service would reciprocate the governor’s gesture by working harder to improve on the current level of service delivery while maintaining the status of Lagos State as the Centre of Excellence.

Meanwhile, Governor Ambode has promised to make a personal
appearance at the most exciting beach soccer competition in Africa, — the Copa Lagos Championship, which holds form Dec 8-10.

The championship which will feature four national beach soccer teams and four clubs in an atmosphere laced with music and fashion shows begins on Friday, Dec. 8, at the Eko Atlantic, Victoria Island Lagos.

Speaking at the Teslim Balogun Stadium on Wednesday, in pre- tournament press conference, the organisers of the competition, Kinetic Sports, showered praises on Governor Ambode for his support for the event.

The Managing Director of Kinetic Sports, Samson Adamu revealed that Governor Ambode had been a pillar behind the development of beach football in the country.

Stressing that Ambode’s efforts were already yielding fruits for beach football, Adamu said:
“The governor has never said no to us. He gave us so much encouragement and that is why we are having a better event with
every edition.

Apart from the enabling environment created by the governor and people of the state, we have enjoyed his backing in all
ways.

“We are happy with the governor especially because we went to some parts of the state where we also discovered some hidden talents in the game.”

According to Adamu, some players discovered through a recent talents hunt will participate in the forthcoming competition as Gidi Sharks, adding that they are being groomed by a prominent beach
soccer coach, Angelo Shirinzi, who took Tahiti to a silver medal at the last edition of Beach World Cup.

The Lagos Commissioner for Information, Steve Ayorinde explained that Governor Ambode was supporting sports deliberately as part of the state’s drive to use tourism, entertainment and the sector to keep
the state as the best in the country.

“One of the core campaign promises by his excellency is the use of sports as a tool for the promotion of tourism as he sees the creative economy as the new oil.

“We are proud that the state is maintaining its excellence in all areas especially in sports, tourism and entertainment. Lagos is fully committed to Copa Lagos competition as part of activities for the 2017 run-in.”

He said that Copa Lagos was a perfect stage to showcase the other side of Lagos which is relaxation, fun and culture.

To demonstrate government’s seriousness in this, the commissioner said Governor
Ambode would make a personal appearance at the stance during the
tournament.

Reiterating the Governor’s resolve to make Lagos a tourist attraction, the Special Assistant to the Governor on Sports, Deji Tinubu said:

“His Excellency wants people to google to find a reason to want to come to Lagos. We want to use Cpa Lagos to create opportunities, create varieties and excitement and enhance the tourism potentials in Lagos.”
