52 Years-Old Nigerian Lady Becomes The First Female Northerner To Attain The Post Of A Commodore





Yesterday, the Nigerian Navy for the first time, decorated Navy Captain Jamila Malafa with the rank of commodore, which is equivalent to brigadier-general in the Nigerian army.

With the rank, she becomes the very first female from the North to become a one-star general, Daily Trust reports.

The report quoted the Chief of Policy and Plans (COPP) at the navy headquarters in Abuja, Rear Admiral Henry Babalola, as calling the development a thing of pride.

According to him, only a few women have achieved such height.

Babalola said Malafa’s resume showed that she had been exposed to a lot courses and training during her career.

Babalola said Malafa’s elevation should inspire women in the armed forces since there is no limit to what they can achieve.

Commenting, Malafa confirmed being the first female of northern extraction to be promoted to the rank in the navy adding that she is inspired to be more loyal and dedicated in her duties.

Born in 1965 in Gombi LGA of Adamawa state, Commodore Jamila Malafa joined the Nigerian Navy in 1988 and was commissioned as midshipman in 1990.
