The windstorm, according to sources, destroyed more than 40 houses, public institutions and rendered over 100 persons homeless.

Commenting on the development during a plenary at the Kogi State House of Assembly on Wednesday, the member representing the Ijumu constituency, Victor Omofaiye, said public and private institutions such as churches, business centres, electricity poles and wires were destroyed by the windstorm that lasted for about thirty minutes.

“It is an open fact that this ugly incident has made the affected victims who were landlords, temporary tenants being assisted by good Samaritans who are accommodating them in their compounds,” Omofaiye said.

He added that the incident had inflicted psychological trauma on the people of the affected community.

The lawmaker called on the state government to direct the State Emergency Management Agency and the National Emergency Management Agency to provide relief materials for the victims.
