Samba arrive for Eagles friendly with 28 players
The delegation of the senior national team of the DR Congo arrived in Port Harcourt on Thursday ahead of Monday’s friendly with the Super Eagles with 28 players.
Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike will be chief host as the Eagles play the Congolese at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium, with other prominent Nigerians and fans having a last opportunity to cheer on their team before their departure to the World Cup in Russia.
Monday’s clash will be the seventh official clash between both countries, with the most famous encounter being an Africa Cup of Nations battle in Dire Dawa, Ethiopia in March 1976, in which a young Eagles squad defeated defending champions DR Congo (then Zaire) 4-2.
The Congolese team comprise stars Cedric Bakambu and Benik Afobe. Others are goalkeepers Joel Kiassumbua, Anthony Mossi and Kalambayi Auguy. The defenders and midfielders are Issama Mpeko, Glody Ngonda, Wilfried Moke, Christian Luyindama, Yannick Bangala, Chancel Mbemba, Aaron Tshibola, Paul-Jose Mpoku, Gael Kakuta, Kevin Mondeko, Arsene Zola, Bobo Ungenda, Padou Bompunga, Lema Mabidi, Fabrice Ngoma, Harrison Manzala and Nelson Munganga. The forwards are Chadrac Akolo, Britt Assombalonga, Kabongo Kasongo, Ben Malango, Ricky Tulengi and Firmin Mubele.
