Quintuplets’ parents get N500,000 monthly allowance

The parents of quintuplets, Mr. and Mrs. Augustine Obiefuna of Orile Iganmu, have been promised N500,000 for the next 12 months for the care of the quintuplets.

The wife of the Governor of Lagos State, Mrs. Bolanle Ambode, made the promise when she visited the five babies – three boys and two girls – at the Lagos Island Maternity on Tuesday.

Other welfare arrangements by the governor’s wife for the newborns included a supply of diapers for one year and a supply of baby milk and other essentials for one year.

She also gave out two bus-loads of baby essentials like beds, mattresses, diapers, boxes of clothes, socks, pants and caps.

It was also announced that Governor Akinwunmi Ambode gave an undisclosed sum of money for the care of the babies, who weighed between 1.5kg and 2kg respectively.

Bolanle said, “We thank God for the safe delivery of the infants. I also commend their mother for regularly attending her antenatal sessions in a government hospital.”

She urged expectant mothers in the state to shun quacks and self medication.

The governor’s wife asked pregnant women to register early and diligently attend antenatal clinics in government hospitals for standard medical care.

“It is good to register in a government hospital where standard medical care is guaranteed. The result is that all five babies were safely delivered to the glory of God,” she added.

The governor’s wife, who noted that the babies were the first set of quintuplets born in the state this year, commended the medical team, led by a consultant, Dr Ogungbemile Babalola, for their professional service, stressing that the government would always prioritise healthcare for expectant mothers to eradicate maternal and infant mortality in the state.

The father of the babies, Mr. Augustine Obiefuna, thanked the governor and his wife for their generosity, which “transcended ethnic and tribal considerations.”
