Pastor’s Wife Who Sent Her Nudes On Church’s WhatsApp Page Attempts Suicide

The wife of the renowned pastor who mistakenly sent her nudes to members of her church using the WhatsApp texting service on mobile phones has reportedly attempted suicide out of embarrassment.

‘Osofo Maame’ who has become a subject of public discussion, especially among members of the husband’s church, was reported to have tried drinking a liquid poisonous substance but for the timely intervention of family relations who have for all this while kept an eye on her after she sent photos and videos of her genitals to them.

According to information gathered, the woman in her mid-30s who is nursing a 6-month-old baby intended to send the pictures to her husband who was on a trip outside the country only for it to be mistakenly land on the church group.

Worse, the news source said the woman sent a message that reads “It’s all yours when you return” along with the photos meant for the pastor of a prominent Church (name withheld)

To her utter dismay, she reportedly realized her mistake right after pressing the send button on her mobile phone.

Members of the church group who received the photos, videos and message were shocked and outraged. They tried to call up the pastor’s wife, who wouldn’t answer. The then started quitting the group one after the other.

In two separate videos, 58 and 31 seconds respectively, she is seen facing the camera, kneeling, wiggling her waist and fondling herself concurrently.

That was after she was earlier captured in a bath showcasing her thighs among others while capturing what she was doing.

Interestingly, a child believed to be hers is heard crying in the background but the lady who appeared to be enjoying herself turned deaf ears to the child.

80 Cameroonian Paramilitary Police Officers Invade Cross River Community

At least more than 80 Cameroonian gendarmes late Monday night crossed the international border between Nigeria and Cameroon and invaded Danare, in Boki Local Government Area of Cross River State.

The gendarmes, according to sources, claimed that they were fighting Cameroon militants who took refuge in the community.

There are well over 5,000 Cameroonian refugees seeking asylum in Danare 1 and 2 communities following the unrest in the southern part of Cameroon.

Cameroonian gendarmes from Bodam community had, in October 2017, invaded Danare, killing two farmers.

It was learnt that gendarmes from Cameroon had also, in December, abducted five persons from Danare on the claims that they were suspected youths involved in the fight for the creation of Ambazonia.

A group of Danare indigenes, led by a former councillor in the Boki LGA, Mr. Douglas Ogar, who spoke with journalists in Calabar on Tuesday, said the gendarmes stormed their village at about 2am on Monday and started shooting.

A lot of residents, according to him, had to scamper for safety.

He said, “Our people did not sleep on Monday because gendarmes from Cameroon invaded our community claiming to be looking for Ambazonia militants.

“The militants, who have since taken refuge in the surrounding forests, were also shooting and the whole community was in chaos.

“It is important to recall the sad invasion of Danare communities by the Cameroonian soldiers, which first started on January 25 where more than 80 well armed Cameroonian soldiers with various range of military weapons and arms crossed the international boundary in the Danare-Daddi/Danare-Bodam international border openings and abducted five natives.

“By the time they left on Monday morning, they said their mission was to warn residents of Danare communities to be aware of their return to carry out a military raid which, according to them, is intended to cleanse Danare communities of all Ambazonia refugees’ threat to the Cameroon Government.

“We feel disappointed with the way the Nigerian Government has handled this.

“As I speak, we are living in fear. I am sure they have come to take surveillance and they have seen that the community is porous.”

He lamented that the gendarmes had threatened to come back to Danare to execute the proscription of Southern Cameroonians taking asylum in Danare as a result of the ongoing Anbazonia crises, which resulted in the mass influx of refugees.

“This is a calculated offensive from Cameroon military on Nigeria. They have shown outright defiance to supremacy of Nigerian territorial sovereignty and blighted the consequences of crossing the international boundary to carrying out all sort of intimidation and harassment on already alarmed citizens of Danare, with warnings of their further assault,” he said.

When contacted, the Cross River State Security Adviser, Mr. Jude Ngaji said the matter was being handled at the highest level of government in the country.

Ngaji said, “The issue has gone beyond the Police and the Nigerian Army has just deployed a battalion to the area.

“No Nigerian has been killed and as you know, this is an international issue which is being handled at the highest level of government.”

Fulani Herdsmen Have Killed 168 Nigerians In 2018

Amnesty International has claimed that clashes between farmers and herdsmen have claimed at least 168 lives in 2018 alone.

In a statement on Monday, Osai Ojigho, country’s director of the organisation, called on the government to find a lasting solution to the crisis.

“The Nigerian authorities’ response to communal violence is totally inadequate, too slow and ineffective, and in some cases unlawful,” Ojigho said.

“Clashes between herdsmen and farmers in Adamawa, Benue, Taraba, Ondo and Kaduna have resulted in 168 deaths in January 2018 alone.

“Hundreds of people lost their lives last year, and the government is still not doing enough to protect communities from these violent clashes. Worse, the killers are getting away with murder,” he said.

She said in 2017, 549 deaths were recorded across 14 states, while thousands were displaced.

“In 2017, clashes between nomadic herdsmen and local farmers resulted in at least 549 deaths and thousands displaced across Enugu, Benue, Taraba, Zamfara, Kaduna, Plateau, Nasarawa, Niger, Plateau, Cross Rivers, Adamawa, Katsina, Delta and Ekiti states.

“The government must totally overturn its response to these deadly clashes to avoid this crisis getting out of control. They need to investigate and bring suspects to justice,”‎ she said.

She also said the military was currently performing operations in 30 states of the country.

Ojigho cited an incident in December 2017, when a fighter jet had fired warning shots in an Adamawa village to prevent reprisals between the villagers and herdsmen.

“The frequent deployment of soldiers has resulted in many cases of excessive use of force, unlawful killings and extrajudicial executions throughout the country,” the statement read.

“The Nigerian military is currently performing security operations in 30 out of Nigeria’s 36 states and the federal capital territory, often taking over routine policing duties.

“The government’s reliance on the military for help in handling what should be public order situations has also seriously undermined the role of the Nigerian police.

“In some cases where the Nigerian security agencies did respond to communal violence, they used excessive or unlawful force resulting in even more deaths and destruction.

“On 4 December 2017, Nigeria’s air force sent fighter jets to fire rockets at villages as a “warning” to deter spiralling communal violence, as hundreds of herdsmen attacked at least five villages in Adamawa state to avenge the massacre of up to 51 members of their community, mostly children, the previous month in Kikan.

“An Amnesty International team visited the villages in the aftermath of the air raids and gathered witness testimony from residents who described being attacked by a fighter jet and a military helicopter as they attempted to flee.

“Launching air raids is not a legitimate law enforcement method by anyone’s standard. Such reckless use of deadly force is unlawful, outrageous and lays bare the Nigerian military’s shocking disregard for the lives of those it supposedly exists to protect.

“This is unlawful and excessive force on a catastrophic scale. It is yet another tragic example where Nigeria’s armed forces are found applying deadly military tactics to law enforcement situations.

“As the herdsmen shot people and torched homes, and the air raid resulted in fire, it was not possible to establish how much of the death and destruction was a direct result of the air attacks or attributable to the attack by herdsmen.

“Houses started burning. Children started running for their lives. Mothers packed up their children and escaped with them. We men were unable to fight back and we started running too. This jet burnt our houses and properties to ashes.

“In some villages, the rocket attacks happened at the same time as the herders raids, while in other villages the air force arrived shortly afterwards, witnesses told Amnesty International.

“Locals in each village also provided Amnesty International with lists of the dead, which totalled 86 names.

“The Nigerian authorities must investigate these attacks and, where these investigations indicate criminal responsibility, prosecute those responsible and bring them to justice,”‎ it added.

Buhari ‘warns Aides Over Obasanjo’

President Muhammadu Buhari has warned his media aides against “engaging or instigating attacks” against former President Olusegun Obasanjo over his recent statement on the performance of the president.

Mr. Obasanjo last week issued a damning statement accusing Mr. Buhari of incompetence and asked him not to seek re-election in 2019.

Following Mr. Obasanjo’s statement last week, the Minister of Information, Lai Mohammed, described Mr. Obasanjo as a patriot who meant well.

Mr. Mohammed however, said the Buhari administration had performed well, even in the handling of the economy, which he said was the crunch of Mr. Obsanjo’s concern.

He listed some of the economic achievements of the president in the last two years, saying, perhaps, due to his busy schedule, Mr. Obasanjo may not have had the time to follow what was going on.

A source at the presidential villa said that immediately after Mr. Obasanjo issued his statement, Mr. Buhari warned his aides “not to attack or instigate any attack on the former President”.

“You can see that is why everybody is very careful on this matter. Mr. President specifically warned against engaging President Obasanjo negatively,” the aide, who declined to be named because he was not permitted to speak officially on the issue said.

Minister Shittu ‘on his own’

The Minister of Communications, Adebayo Shittu, on Monday however attacked the former president, accusing him of “sensationalism”.

Mr. Shittu said as a Minister for two years in the administration of Mr. Buhari, he considered it a patriotic duty to speak out.

He said he was speaking personally and as an APC member, because, according to him, the government had not been talking enough.

“Obasanjo as a Nigerian has the right to hold an opinion. If Obasanjo holds an opinion that Mr. President has performed less than it should be, those of us who are in the position to know better have a right to also state the other side which perhaps Obasanjo is ignorant of,” the minister said.

“You see, there are some people who enjoy engaging in sensationalism. With due respect to General Obasanjo, if you take his history over the last 30 years, there is hardly any regime other than his own that he did not criticise, except Sani Abacha, who didn’t wait for Obasanjo to criticise him before he was sent to the gulag.

“So many Nigerians know that Obasanjo enjoys this type of sensationalisation. In any case, no matter what impression you have of me, do you have a right to tell me not to contest an election? I mean we should talk like people who are educated, who know our left from the right,” Mr. Shittu said.

Mr. Shittu also recently opened a South West campaign office for Mr. Buhari and his vice, Yemi Osinbajo, ahead 2019 election in Ibadan Oyo state.

The Communications Minister also came to the meeting of the Federal executive Council, FEC, with bags full of Buhari/Osinbajo caps and began sharing to members of the cabinet before he was stopped by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF, Boss Mustapha.

Asked why Mr. Shittu was allowed to use the State House to attack Mr. Obasanjo despite the warning from the president, our source said “the Minister, like he also said is on his own”.

Stephanie Otobo: "I Was Not Paid To Confess, I Will Name My Sponsors In Court"

STEPHANIE Otobo, the lady who recently avowed to have been paid heavily to blackmail the General Overseer of Omega Fire Ministries, Apostle Johnson Suleman has said she was not lured, kidnapped, forced or paid to confess.

Ms. Otobo stated this on Tuesday in a video debunking an online medium’s report that she was phoned by Suleiman’s “agents” in Canada, United States and Nigeria, urging her to return to Nigeria and say she was recruited against him.

She had last week in a video apologised to Suleman for accusing him of impregnating and breaching a marriage promise.

The woman stated that she was sponsored by “very strong and powerful politicians and pastors” to defame the preacher.

But on Tuesday morning, a pre-recorded video recorded in 2017, was published by Sahara Reporters, which showed Otobo foretelling her confession.

In that video, she thanked her supporters before accusing the cleric of pressuring her family and others to lie that the government was behind the scandal.

In another video that emerged on Tuesday night, Otobo debunked the online medium’s report.

According to her, the video was recorded by her sponsors to gag her in future.

“I was not lured, kidnapped, forced or paid to confess. I confessed for my own peace of mind and my wellbeing as a human being.

“How much can the Apostle pay me that will match what I was paid? I am still being offered more by my sponsors,” she said.

Otobo who did not name her alleged sponsors in the new video promised to do so in court.

She and the online medium earned a litigation to the tune of N1billion slammed on them by the Cleric.

My wife curses me with her private part, Pastor tells court

A Pentecostal Pastor, Bernard Towoju has urged an Igando Customary Court, Lagos, to dissolve his marriage to his wife, Abosede, for allegedly using her private part to invoke curses on him.

Towoju, 53, said in his divorce petition on Monday that “I cannot continue to make love with a woman who always goes naked and swears for me with her private part”.

According to him, Abosede is stubborn, wayward and troublesome.

“She once came to my office to fight me and tore my clothes in the presence of my colleagues. We fight on daily basis and hurt each other a lot.

“We always land in the police station after our fight, in fact, we are regular customers at the station,’’ he said.

The petitioner accused his wife of threatening his life, adding that his wife always hit him with dangerous weapons whenever they quarreled.

“I had to run away from the house I built 10 years ago to rent an apartment for safety.

“She chased me with cutlass, bottles and sticks; our neighbours can testify to that.

“I am afraid, I cannot sleep under the same roof with her with my two eyes closed,” he said.

He begged the court to dissolve the marriage that the love he once had for her had faded and he could no longer tolerate her ill-nature and troubles.

The respondent, Abosede, a fashion designer, accused her husband of calling her a witch.

“He said everywhere he went for solution to his problems, they always tell him that I am behind his predicament.

“My hands are clean; I know nothing about his woes.

“Towoju abandoned me and the children 10 years ago, I have been taking care of the children,” the 46-year-old woman added.

The mother of four urged the court not to grant her husband’s request for the dissolution of the marriage, saying “I still love him”.

In his judgment, the court President, Mr Akin Akinniyi, said the petitioner was adamant despite all mediation from the court and family.

“Since the petitioner insisted on divorce after several interventions, the court has no choice than to dissolve the union in spite of the fact that the wife still claims she loves her husband.

“The court pronounced the marriage between Pastor Bernard Towoju and Mrs Abosede Towoju dissolved today, both parties henceforth ceased to be husband and wife.

“Both are free to go their separate ways without any hindrances and molestation,” Akinniyi ruled.

7 Industries And Career Fields For Comfortable Living In Nigeria

We know that in Nigeria, most students and parents alike choose certain courses and career paths based on how lucrative it is. At JarusHub, we understand this. Based on this, we chronicle career paths we believe you get into and live a comfortable life (Rich is subjective). However, you’ll need to understand the trade-off between earning more and having a life outside work.

Whatever the reason, you’ll need to understand that a well-paid job comes with a price and that price is normally your free time or the amount of stress that you receive. That room full of money won’t be much comfort if you return home at midnight every weekday and only have time to cook Indomie or drink Garri. Also remember that many of the highest-paying professions will be in Lagos, Abuja and Port-Harcourt; which are amongst the most expensive places to live in the land. However, if you’re saving-savvy and know how to get around on the cheap, you may be able to mitigate the higher cost of living.

1. Investment Banking/Private Equity

Investment banking and private equity typically offer one of the highest salaries out there at entry level and are likely to provide a package of perks that could include health insurance, certification fees, profit sharing, children education fees, company cars and various discounts. The trade-off is that long days in IB and PE are the only days in your career and there is a high level of competition for positions. You will work hours that will make you arrive home late. Expect nerve breaking deadlines on modelling of charts and intense research that could keep you till midnight at the office. Additionally, the lack of free time may shrink your social circle to only include others working in the industry.

Top Investment Banking and Private Equity Corporations in Nigeria include: FBN Quest, Meristem Securities, Africa Capital Alliance, Actis Capital, Carlye Group, Abraaj Group, StanbicIBTC Capital, Cardinal Stone, Chapel Hill Denham, Vetiva Capital Management, etc.

2.Oil & Gas: The oil and gas industry offers one of the highest monetary perks, packages, bonuses and privileges in Nigeria. With salaries (before tax) starting from N300, 000 to N1,000, 000 monthly. The pay depends on the firm and the “stream” (up, mid or downstream) it belongs to. This further increases if you are posted to offshore operational sites. Although, the industry within the past years has had a lull because of low oil prices. However, things look to be changing as the price increases gradually. Trade-off: Long hours depending on the department, far away from family and friends and limited time for extra-curricular activities.

Top firms in the industry include: ExxonMobil, Royal Dutch Shell, Oando, Addax, Halliburton, Saipem Nigeria, Conoil, Forte Oil, Seplat etc.

3. Management Consulting/Auditing: The benefits: Management consultants and accountants tend to enjoy varied work and early responsibility alongside abundant employee perks, bonuses, car loans and accommodation allowance. However, workloads can fluctuate during certain periods of the year, with intense busyness and tight office schedules. Pay is good and varies across firms. With entry level salaries starting from N2.5 million annually depending on the firm and niche of consulting. Expect very long hours and travelling at the shortest interval.

Top Consulting firms include: McKinsey and Company, PwC Nigeria, Accenture, Phillips Consulting, KPMG Nigeria, Boston Consulting Group, Grant Thornton Nigeria etc.

4. Medicine: The benefits: Guaranteed employment and respect amongst the public. Medicine is a noble profession. Doctors are well paid especially in federal hospitals as a result of the Consolidated Medical Salary Scale – CONMESS. With entry level salaries starting from N195,000 – N220, 000 monthly. Earnings at private hospitals differ depending on the workload, state of residence, prestige of the hospitals etc. Earnings are further increased when working with multinational organisations such as UNICEF, WHO, NGOs such as Médecins Sans Frontières and the Red Cross. Certain medical fields pay higher, e.g. Radiology. As you specialise further, invariably, the pay increases. Yes, you might not be a(n) Dangote or Otedola as a doctor. But expect to live comfortably, as you will be able to afford life’s necessities at least. However, expect calls during emergencies, which could majority of the time come up at odd hours.

Top hospitals include: National Hospital Abuja, Reddington Hospital, VI, Federal Teaching Hospitals, LASUTH etc.

5. IT/Telecoms: The benefits: an IT career offers you the chance to work with cutting edge technology and to be part of an industry that is constantly changing. You get to create things or be part of teams producing new technologies. Entry level staff can get N110, 000 – N200, 000 monthly depending on the company and niche operated. The downside is that, particularly in IT consulting, but also with companies with multiple sites, you may have some long commutes around the country and may be away from home during the week. This might impact on your home and social life.

Top IT/Telecoms firms include: MainOne, Interswitch, Google Nigeria, MTN Nigeria, Facebook Nigeria, IHS Towers, Huawei Nigeria, Ericsson Nigeria, Globacom etc.

6. Pharmaceuticals: The benefits: A career as a pharmacist affords one with great opportunities. As a pharmacist, salaries can start from N80, 000 – N200, 000 monthly. You can also delve into community pharmacy or become a sales representative or a manufacturing personnel for a pharmaceutical company (the likes of GSK Nigeria, JUHEL, Emzor, M&B etc.). Pharmacy, which is only offered by less than 20 accredited universities by the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria. The country has less than 20, 000 registered pharmacists, and this offers a less crowded and lucrative industry to entrants. Compared to other high paying fields, this offers less working hours and better work-life balance. However, expect to travel more if you work as a sales rep.

Top pharmaceutical firms: Emzor, GSK Nigeria, HealthPlus, Swiss Pharma, Orange Drugs, Ranbaxy Nigeria, May and Baker, Evans Medical etc.

7. Commercial Banking: Benefits: More predictable working hours. Pay varies across firms and services offered. Starting salaries for core staff after training can range from N130, 000 – 250, 000 monthly across various financial institutions. Generally, jobs in commercial banking and allied financial services are relatively stable positions with shorter working hours than those in investment banking and private equity. However, deadlines and meeting targets are rampant in the industry, it provides more work-life balance than IB/PE, with less pay.

Top commercial and finance related institutions: First Bank Nigeria, GTB, Access Bank, UBA, etc.

Ticket Racketeering Rocks Rigasa Rail Station On Abuja-kaduna Line

Officials at the Rigasa Railway Station of the Abuja-Kaduna rail lines have been accused of hoarding tickets from intending purchasers, thereby subjecting them to unnecessary hardship.

THISDAY checks at the station yesterday revealed an ugly situation where ticket sellers were heavily involved in racketeering.

THISDAY met a chaotic scene when it visited the station as passengers who queued up were later seen running helter-skelter trying to obtain the ticket.

A particular staff in charge of tickets, Mr. Nabasa, allegedly left intending purchasers who were on queue to personally sell tickets to those he felt could afford it at a high price to the amazement of everyone.

The situation at Rigasa, according to a passenger, has shown that the much talked-about change by the current administration of President Muhammadu Buhari has not yielded any results.

A particular passenger who agreed to speak to THISDAY after some subtle persuasion, said the best solution to ticket racketeering was the introduction of online purchases.

According to him, “My name is Jemilu Dabo, a staff of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), I came here (train station) around 12:30p.m.“Actually I joined the queue but, unfortunately I was told that the ticket was finished. But I have to call someone to be able to get one at a higher price.”

He added: “The person I called is a staff of the Nigeria Railway Corporation (NRC), and he is here at the Rigasa Rail Station. I gave him about N3,000 for me and my friend for the standard class as against the normal price of N1,050. And he immediately gave me the same ticket he said was finished.”

He said: “My suggestion is that the federal government should introduce the online ticketing just the same way you book for flights. The introduction of online ticketing will go a long way to reduce bureaucracy and hoarding on the part of the management as well as enhance speedy services thereby saving passengers unnecessary hardship of joining the queue in an attempt to obtain the ticket.

“Though the online could affect those who cannot read or write, however, for those who have the capability for online, he or she can ease their problem of coming to join the queue.”

He however, said some people may not like the idea and some people may not know even how to book online, adding that “there should also be more publicity like advertising on Radio and television as well as social media.”

On the security situation at the rail station, Dabo said: “There is no adequate security to curtail the chaotic situation at the station especially when obtaining tickets. Government should improve the security at the train station.”

Also, Mr. Muhammed Kebir Ibrahim, who was on his way to Abuja from Kebbi State, called for automation of tickets to avoid racketeering.

He told THISDAY that if need be “the government should engage consultants or a financial institution to handle the sales of tickets to avoid financial leakages.”

Continuing, he said: “If a status quo must be maintained, a law should be in place to discourage any operational staff from engaging in ticket selling.”

Similarly, the Police Officers attached to the Abuja-Kaduna rail lines, who bare their minds on the state of things, complained about lack of being motivated by the management of the NRC.

Meanwhile, the coach from Rigasa station in Kaduna to Abuja broke down at the Rijana station due to mechanical fault, THISDAY also learnt.

Igbo Presidency: We Prefer Good Governance - Igbo Youths

Against the backdrop of the claim by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Mustafa Boss that President Muhammadu Buhari's re-election is the shortest cut to a Nigerian president of Igbo extraction in 2023, Igbo youths have said that they prefer good governance to a president from their extraction.

Speaking in a telephone interview with rainbowgist, the President of Igbo Youths Initiative, Prince Alexander Ezeobi said that what most Nigerians want is the person that would improve their living conditions irrespective of where he comes from. According to him, the world has gone beyond the extraction where the president comes from. He said assuming that President Buhari is doing well, Igbo youths would have supported his re-election.

However, he said that those who are saying that Buhari would hand over to an Igbo person if he is re-elected in 2019 is either that they are trying to deceive the Igbo or they don’t know about Buhari`s legendary hatred of the Igbo race. He wondered how a president who did not consider the Igbo fit enough to be appointed among the security chiefs would consider them fit for presidency. According to him, the last thing Buhari would do in life is to hand over to an Igbo person, adding that he cannot even do it at gun point.

He said that using 2023 Igbo presidency as a tool to make Igbos vote for Buhari in 2019 would not work. According to him, Igbos are too wise to be deceived by that. He said that those who want Buhari to stay beyond 2019, upon all the atrocities that his kinsmen, the Fulani herdsmen are committing are the biggest enemies of the country. Ezeobi said that what is currently going in the country today is just a tip of what would happen if President Buhari is re-elected in 2019. He said that all hands must be on deck to stop the armggedon that would befall ,should Buhari win second term.

"The APC has started again with their lies. They now want to use 2023 presidency to deceive Igbos into voting for Buhari. This is a party that has become notorious for breaking campaign promises. Whoever wants Buhari to continue in power beyond 2019 upon what is going on in the country now is an enemy.

Left to us, he should resign now and go home, But we know that he would not, so we are waiting for 2019 to send him packing. What the Igbo youths want is a president who would see the whole country as his constituency. A president who would give all the components parts of the country sense of belonging. A president that would provide jobs and security for the youths and other Nigerians and not one whose people would be using Nigeria as a killing field. Buhari must go and leave us alone .He has done enough harm to our people.

Nigeria And Niger Republic To Partner In Uranium Exploration

The Federal Ministry of Mines and Steel Development, FMMSD, is finalising plans to spend N20 billion on exploration, the minister in charge, Kayode Fayemi has said.

The minister disclosed this in Abuja on Thursday at the project presentation of the Mineral Sector Support for Economic Diversification Project, MinDiver, in partnership with the World Bank.

He said the expenditure would lead to further information being generated and provided in the area of exploration.

Mr. Fayemi also said that the ministry had finally retrieved the aerial survey, commissioned years ago, which was not paid for by the government.

He said it had now been paid for and the data had been retrieved for the use of mining investors.

While discussing the MinDiver project, the minister commended the World Bank for using the roadmap as a guide for formulating the project as it usually is not the case in most scenarios with external support.

“Very often, what we are told is that donor support is largely driven by what the donor wants, not necessarily what the recipient is in desperate need of, but I can assure you that working with the world bank team on this project has shown that this is not always the case,” he said.

“The World Bank listened to us and planned what eventually became this project largely from the roadmap and of course they guided and shared their extensive experience with us in other countries.

“Everything that is contained in the programme document for this sector initiative is largely driven by us and we cannot therefore hold the World Bank responsible for the success or the failure of this project. We must hold ourselves responsible for the outcome.”

Mr. Fayemi said the purpose of the project is to build a world class minerals’ and mining ecosystem designed to serve a targeted domestic as well as export market for mineral ores.

“We plan to achieve this by focusing on Nigeria’s minerals, mining and related processing industry over a three-phased period.

“The first phase is to rebuild market confidence in our minerals and mining sector and win back all our domestic users of industrial minerals that are currently imported.

“During this phase, Nigeria will also seek to expand the use of our energy minerals like coal and this phase will take the next two to three years.

“The second phase focuses on expanding our domestic ore and mineral access processing industry. For too long, what we have in terms of endowment is often taken out raw and our conclusion is that they would be more beneficial both to our private sector operators and to us in the government for our mineral ores to be processed locally with value added before being taken out, if they must be taken out at all.

“In some cases the market here is large enough to absorb what we produce but in some cases we may need to encourage export of this endowment.

“The third phase for the roadmap seeks to return Nigeria to the global ore and mineral market at a market competitive price and we expect that this would also coincide with a commodity upshot because the mineral resource industry is also an industry slightly like the oil industry. It is the same extractive sector and prices go up and down.

“While we are waiting for full recovery of that market, we believe that we can use the period to prepare for our global communication. This is in line with our broader national strategy as pertained the Economic Recovery and Growth Plan, ERGP.”

Mr. Fayemi acknowledged the World Bank support as timely and appropriate.

The minister also mentioned a meeting he had with his counterpart in Niger Republic on Monday as one of the efforts to grow the sector through partnerships within the African continent.

He said they agreed and finalised plans on the exploration of minerals binding both Nigeria and Niger Republic, particularly Uranium, limestone and zinc.

NBC Bans Olamide's "Science Student

Nigeria Broadcasting Commission,(NBC) has slammed a Not To Be Broadcast (NTBB) warning against a recent song by rapper Olamide entitled, Science Student.

The notification proscribing the song from being broadcast was sent to all radio and television stations across the country during the week.

Also, the Head of Public Affairs, NBC, Hajia Maimuna Jimada confirmed NBC’s stand on the trending song on Wednesday, stating that while the regulatory body did not ban the song outrightly, it considered it unfit for broadcast.

“NBC does not ban music. Our mandate is on what goes on Radio and TV. Olamide’s Science Student has been declared ‘Unfit for broadcast,’” she said.

Asked about the context in which the song was declared unlawful, Jimada, hinted on the profligate mention and the subtle promotion of illegal drugs. She also issued standing warning to all broadcasting corporations within its jurisdiction.

“We have communicated all our licensees for compliance or they will face sanctions,” she said.

Often called King of the Street, Olamide engages his own indigenous tongue in what may be considered a subtle and metaphorical description of the different ways in which drugs and substance are being abused in the streets of Lagos. He mention the use of prohibited drugs such as Codeine, Tramadol, illicit substances such as Monkey tail, Skushi, Shisha, Alomoterming, referring to those who use and mix them as Science Students. This classical attribution follows what science students do in the laboratory, which is mixing chemicals.

Though, Olamide appears to reveal these activities in his song using expressions such as ashiri eko otituloju ewe, ashiritu, (the revealing of secrets), by singing about drugs and judging by the general ambience, not to mention the kind of visuals that would entail this song.

Anti-Open Grazing Law: Mansur Dan-Ali, A Disgrace To Democracy - Benue APC

The Benue State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has said that the Minister of Defense, Mansur Dan-Ali is a disgrace to democracy for telling Nigerians and other members of the public that the attack on two communities in Benue that led to the death of over 70 innocent people and destruction of properties worth millions of Naira was as a result of the open grazing prohibition law enacted by the State Government.

State Chairman of the APC, Abba Yaro who also called for the resignation of the Defense Minister and an apology to the state in a statement made available to Sunday Sun averred that the statement credited to the Defense Minister was a flatly ridiculous absurdity and the highest level of public disgrace to democracy and the Nigerian populace.

“By this singular utterance, the Minister of Defence, Col. Muhammad Mansur Dan Ali (rtd) has inarguably displayed incontestable lack of the required sensibility and capacity to serve as Defence Minister in a country of over 180 million people with over 300 ethnic nationalities.

“As an integral part of the country, Nigeria and as a State that gave President Muhammadu Buhari an edge in the 2015 general elections, we demand that Col. Mansur Dan Ali (rtd) resigns his position as Nigeria’s Defence Minister immediately and tender an unreserved apology to the good people of Benue State and the country at large.”

The Party questioned the real motive behind Dan-Ali’s statement and demanded that he publicly explains to the party leadership why his reckless utterances should not be considered as a deliberate ploy to truncate the party’s victory in the 2019 general election.

“Through his statement, as an insider, Dan-Ali appears to have been contracted by the opposition to work against the APC. Minister Mansur apparently is one of those who are working against the unity of Nigeria and must be stopped now before he and others with such parochial, hateful, divisive and repulsive tendencies plunge the country into deeper crisis.

“In as much as we would not dignify Col. Mansur with obnoxious affronts, we would again want to inform him that he is not just an ingrate, but an unrepentant pathological opportunist who was in his farm working for the PDP when many of us toiled the nooks and crannies of this country to ensure victory for President Muhammadu Buhari in the election that brought him (Buhari) to power through which he (Mansur) is one of the biggest beneficiaries.”

The party however declared its support for Governor Samuel Ortom, and reiterated its commitment towards making the open grazing prohibition law our number one priority in the State.

Senator Shehu Sani Attacks FG Over Order To Monitor Social Media Posts

The senator representing Kaduna Central senatorial district, Sen. Shehu Sani has attacked the Federal Government over the social media monitoring order issued two days ago.

Recall that 2 days ago, the Federal Government issued an order to state security to monitor the social media post of prominent Nigerians and to prosecute if necessary. The order was given after ex president released a berating later to Buhari and APC administration, urging him to desist from contesting in 2019.

Sen. Shehu Sani reacted via his Twitter;

If the energy, resources and time that will be dispensed in monitoring the social media labyrinth by the state security apparatus, will be deployed in targeting and tracking kidnappers, militiamen, Terrorists, Herdsmen, Bandits and Human traffickers, we will be safer.

Buhari Orders Clamp Down On Illegal Arms Bearers

Security agents have been issued presidential order to arrest and illegal bearers of arms.

The directive was sequel to Thursday’s National Security Council meeting attended by President Muhammadu Buhari, Defence Minister Monsur Dan-Ali and the service chiefs.

Giving an update on the meeting on his Twitter handle yesterday, Buhari said his government was “stepping up our efforts to tackle the proliferation of small arms and light weapons across the country.”

“The security agencies already have standing instructions to arrest and prosecute anyone found with illegal arms,” he added.

Sights of Fulani herdsmen going about with AK 47 and reports of their wanton killings of Nigerians have sparked outrage across the land.

Benue State recently buried 73 victims of such attacks, followed by Taraba State where scores of people were also killed.

Buhari’s government has been widely criticised for looking the other way while herdsmen went on the rampage.

However, the Minister of Defence, Dan-Ali, emerging from Thursday’s NSC meeting, told reporters that the killings in parts of the country could not be blamed solely on herdsmen, because according to him, “there are also militias who also carry arms.”

He added: “Some people were caught with arms and they call themselves Forest Guards or whatever with AK47.

“There is nowhere in this country where arms are allowed to be carried apart from legitimate security forces.

So, anybody carrying any arm is doing so illegally.”

According to Stephanie, she was paid heavily by some politicians to tarnish the image of the pastor in her desperation to become a popular singer.

She said, “I came to Nigeria with a strong passion for my career and fell into the wrong hands of some powerful politicians and pastors who manipulated me in a wrong way to fault the man of God.

“They made me tell lies against him, because of my desperation for my career and I succumbed to it.

At the time I didn’t know what was going on. I just wanted to help myself. They paid me a lot of money.

“I want to apologise to the body of Christ; Apostle Suleman and his wife. I was used and paid against Apostle Suleman.

Herdsman sets ex-employer’s 22-hectare cassava, rice plantations ablaze

Twenty hectares of cassava and rice plantations owned by Lehin Investment Farms, have allegedly been burnt by a herdsman previously employed as a security guard by the company.

The consultant of the company, Mr. Daramola Josiah, said the suspect, Hammed Gaa-Alakuko, was employed alongside two other herdsmen to help prevent the destruction of their farm by marauding herdsmen.

Gaa-Alakuko, who was employed in March 2017 and disengaged nine months later, had returned to the business of tending to cattle.

Since Gaa-Alakuko allegedly set the farm ablaze, he has been on the run, while the police are on his trail.

Josiah said since the arson, Gaa Alakuko had been sending emissaries to the company’s management to beg for forgiveness.

Conducting journalists round the affected farm at Idofian/Igberiin in Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State, Josiah estimated the destruction to be about N20m.

According to him, the destruction has negatively affected the efforts of the company to contribute positively towards increasing food production in Kwara State.

The CP said in a statement issued by the state Police Public Relations Officer, Okasanmi Ajayi, that statements made by the victims at the camp showed that the bandits also robbed them of food items and clothing.

He said, “On the strength of the report by the victims, men were deployed to trace and arrest the hoodlums. They were traced to a vast game reserve in the area.

“Meanwhile, the local vigilance group and the policemen on the trail of the hoodlums were ambushed. In an exchange of gunfire which ensued, one of the local security men was killed while two are still missing.”

Ado said he had dispatched a detachment of riot policemen and operatives of the State Anti-Robbery Squad to the area to find and arrest the hoodlums.

He also stated that the state government had ordered the redeployment of soldiers to join the police for effective security of lives and property of the citizens.

Ado said, “It was an armed robbery operation by hoodlums who took advantage of the vast game reserve in Kaiama leading to Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State to perpetrate their evil acts. Efforts are ongoing to fish them out and rid the area of criminals.”

But the Chairman of the Kaiama Local Government Area, Abdullahi Abubakar, said the gunmen seemed to have set up a camp around the national park and moved from one community to another to terrorise residents.

According to him, the park covers about 50 kilometres of land between Kaiama in Kwara State and Borgu in Niger state.

He said the attackers would rob residents of cows, food items, and goats and then return to their hideout.

Abubakar said when the complaints of victims became too much, the council deployed members of its local vigilante for surveillance.

He said, “Unfortunately, when the vigilance group approached them in their camp, the criminals killed one of them and three of the vigilance group members went missing in the process.

“We don’t know their whereabouts for now and nobody can go into the bush and start searching for the dead body,” he said.

According to him, at least 50 soldiers had been deployed from the 222 battalion to comb the bush.

The spokesperson for the Kwara State Police Command, Mr. Ajayi Okasanmi, who confirmed the story, said the police had commenced an investigation into the incident.
