I didn’t force any players to sign contracts – Rohr

Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr has denied a report alleging that he was forcing players of the national team to sign contracts with a particular agency in exchange for the 2018 World Cup spots.

An  online medium on April 11 stated that, “There are rumours that Rohr has joined forces with DW Sports Management to force Super Eagles players to sign representative agreements with the France-based agency or be omitted from the roster for the World Cup.”

The report also alleged that CSKA Moscow forward Ahmed Musa and Gent’s Moses Simon joined the DW Sports Management a  few months after Rohr paid the duo visits at their clubs.

But the 65-year-old German manager  warned that such a report  could land those behind it in trouble.

“It’s a big joker. I was laughing so much if I had to start these things now at 65. So, let’s laugh. When I returned from the seminar in Russia and made a stop in Moscow to see Ahmed Musa, it was to see him and it was a coincidence that we played there,” Rohr stated on Monday Night Football on SuperSport.

“Our players are free to meet the agents they want, and I’m not interested in other things than being the coach of the Eagles. I never did it.  I’m 45 years now in professional football, why should I start it now? These people must be very careful, saying such bad things about our players,  especially about  Moses Simon; about his private life, very bad allegations. They have to be careful because one day a lawyer will come and they will finish in prison.”

The ex-Niger manager also revealed that his provisional 35-man World Cup list would be out on May 14, adding that though the players who played  the qualifiers are  top on his priority list, the local league players had “a little chance” of making the squad to Russia.

“Yes, it’s (the list) exactly one month before the World Cup and we will be ready and we will speak about it next week, the most important thing is to have a good structure for  preparations,” he said.

“The surprises can only come if some players are doing so well and we have to take them, it will be wonderful to see some surprises. But the players who brought us to the World Cup without any defeat are the first choice now.

“The (home-based) boys have a little chance if they play very well  for  their clubs, you know we have to take the fittest also. In the first 35-man list, they have a chance.”

The coach backed  young Deportivo La Coruna goalkeeper Francis Uzoho, who has been his preferred choice over    Ikechukwu Ezenwa and Daniel Akpeyi in the Eagles’ last two games.

He said, “Our goalkeeping coach is working with him, he will do another 10 days work with him. The staff of La Coruna, and (Clarence) Seedorf allowed us to work with him. He already has three very good games with us. He kept a clean sheet against Argentina, against Poland you saw what he did against (Robert) Lewandowski but he’s very young. I’m not afraid to have confidence in young players.”

Though Rohr is pleased with the club form of his attackers, he however spotted the Eagles’ defence as the problematic area of the team “at the moment.”

“When you see what happened this weekend, (Odion) Ighalo scored four goals, Musa scored two, Victor Moses scored one and had an assist, Kelechi (Iheanacho) played very well at Leicester,  but didn’t score. Alex Iwobi played also. So, I’m not pessimistic about this department. We have  Mikel Obi, who can give good balls and also score. I think we will be able to score some goals at the World Cup.

“My problem at the moment is in the defence because (Leon) Balogun is injured, William Troost-Ekong is not playing since they changed the coach (at his club). Tyronne Ebuehi is injured and Elderson Echiejile is not playing many games, so we have to check our defence also.”

The #lazynigerianyouth trend is not dying down anytime soon, as Nigerian veteran singer, Charly Boy has also lent his voice to the campaign which labelled Nigerian youths as ‘lazy’, following a statement linked to President Buhari.

He can never be broke like us, always liquid because oil money no dey finish.
However, he is a lazy Nigerian.

4 Ways Nigerians Are Endangering Their Lives With Food They Eat

1.) Ripening agent for banana and plantain. Because people are in hurry to harvest their bananas and plantain. they spray it with Calcium carbide. This is a ripening agent and makes the plantain to ripen very quietly. It is extremely hazardous to the human body as it contains traces of arsenic and phosphorus.

So anytime you buy ripe plantain in the market chances are you are buying plantain ripened with Calcium carbide.

Solution: Buy unripe Plantains and Banana and keep it inside black plastic for few days, it will ripe naturally.

2.) Most Nigerian farmers, if not all of them use a chemical called "Sniper" as added ingredient for pest control. Sniper is potent and it scares me. It is a DDVP, 2,2-Dichlorovinyl dimethyl phosphate compound. An organophosphate that readily binds to the lungs and kidney causing cancer. It is almost in everything you eat in Nigeria. Even the looters eat it too.

Solution: You are on your own here because it is everywhere.

3.) Weevil controls in Beans with Aluminum phosphide (AlP). This is the most dangerous food pollution in Nigeria. Because weavil can destroy the entire year harvest of the farmer in few days. They drop tablets of Aluminum Phosphide inside each bag of beans.

They think that one tablet is enough to drive weevils away from the bag of beans. Yes they are right, but that one tablet can drive weevil away from an entire Silo or 50 tone of beans. Do the maths yourselves.

Unfortunately, it is now one of the most common causes of food poisoning in Nigeria. It liberates lethal phosphine gas when it comes in contact either with atmospheric moisture or with hydrochloric acid in the stomach.

Solution: Eat beans with Weevils.

4.) Chicken from China preserved using embalming substance. The same used to embalm dead bodies in Nigeria. This is cancer causing substance that will kill you slowing. How else do you think chicken gets to Nigeria from China without proper cooling system.

Solution: Eat only local chicken. don't buy frozen chicken. if you can't see it running around don't buy it.

The farmers don't want to kill people, but they are uneducated and don't know what they are doing and besides, they don't have tools to deal with the challenges they have.

This is why the European Union, United States don't want to have the Beans,Cocoa, Plantain and Pineapples from Nigeria. It has nothing to do with racism or because they are evil white people. They have warned Nigeria several times to clean up her food.

But we no dey hear word.

2019: Ndigbo May Dump Buhari Again As Ezeife,Others Reject 2023 Presidency Offer

During the 2015 presidential election, the people of the South-east region threw their weight behind former President Goodluck Jonathan.

They were to be paid back in their own coins when President Muhammadu Buhari made his key appointments without considering any Igbo fit for the positions.

An ostensibly angry Buhari had said he would not take what he would use to compensate those who supported him overwhelmingly to give to the people who gave him only five per cent votes at the polls.

For some of the Igbo, the support for Jonathan then was anchored on the belief that it would be easier for him to support a president of the Igbo extraction after serving out his eight years in office in 2019.

The Igbo who believe in the tripod nature of the country have been crying of marginalization in the country, particularly as their zone has not had a shot at the presidency, which probably was responsible for their always seeking for a way to actualize the dream.

And as if the other parts of the country know the desire of the Igbo, they always raise the hope of the people of the South-east by telling them to support them so as to get power thereafter.

Therefore, Ohanaeze Ndigbo and some of the people of the South-east are again thinking that it would be easier for them to accomplish the desire after the eight years of the Buhari presidency since the South-west had served for eight years under former President Olusegun Obasanjo.

Indeed, the apex Igbo socio-cultural organization, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, believes that the Igbo should better wait for 2023 when the coast would be clearer for the South-east zone to contest for the presidency.

The Ohanaeze Ndigbo President General, Chief Nnia Nwodo, who spoke through his Media Adviser, Chief Emeka Atamah, said the North should be allowed to serve its eight years after which it would be the turn of the South-east.

He pointed out that the eight-year tenure of the North was truncated when former President Umaru Yar’Adua died and power shifted to the South-south, saying that the North would have been adequately compensated if Buhari is allowed to complete eight years.

Then in 2023, he said, it would have become statutory for the Igbo to take a shot at the presidency, which has eluded the zone for many years.

But Sunday Sun findings revealed that the Ohanaeze Ndigbo position notwithstanding, the South-east zone might again deny President Buhari their votes in the 2019 elections.

This was also despite the concerted efforts being made by Buhari’s loyalists to convince the people of the South-east to support his re-election bid so as to have a better chance of producing his successor in 2023.

A cross section of Igbo leaders interviewed by Sunday Sun expressed divergent views concerning the proposal with many of them saying that 2023 promise was conceived to mislead the people again.

Recently, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Boss Mustafa, had told a delegation of the Ebonyi State chapter of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), who visited his office, to “preach to the other South-east states that the shortest way to Igbo presidency is to support Buhari in 2019.”

Since that pronouncement by the SGF, many APC chieftains in the South-east have been unrelenting in marketing the offer to the people of the zone.

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress and Director General of the Voice of Nigeria, Mr Osita Okechukwu told Sunday Sun that supporting Buhari in 2019 would, among other benefits, bring Ndigbo back into the mainstream of the Nigerian politics.

Hear him: “President Buhari’s victory in the 2019 presidential election presents 2023 as a landmark year for Ndigbo who genuinely want to end sulking, lamentation and agonising over decades of marginalisation. This is the antidote and will showcase our hard work and enterprise. The alliance with Buhari is surreal and realpolitik. Realpolitik, for more than any other event, 2023 will consolidate not only our fledgling democracy, but will Bring Back Ndigbo into the Mainstream (BBNM) of Nigeria politics. This is why I’m one of those who would like to ask, what would the Great Zik have done in the circumstances we find ourselves?

“I sincerely believe that Zik, a foremost nationalist, if given our present scenario, would have mobilised Igbo votes for President Buhari so as not only to benefit handsomely from the massive Roads, Rails, Agric and Power (RRAP) projects; but also to position one of our own for president come 2023. This is better than alliance with Afenifere that today doesn’t control even one local council in the South-west.

“The golden opportunity for a president of Nigeria of Igbo extraction is predicted on the truism that since 1999, a zoning or rotation convention is subsisting, between the Southern and Northern regions. The South-west ruled from 1999-2007 and the South-South ruled 2010-2015. So, the South-east is the only geo-political zone in the southern zone, which is yet to benefit from this treasure.

“Ndigbo should shake off ancient prejudices and stereotypes for equity and natural justice is on our side. In the political domain, there is the law with its legal teeth and there is convention with its moral weight. The zoning convention is meant to cement unity and that’s why its utility for Nigeria is realpolitik.”

Also Imo State-born business mogul and philanthropist, Chief Chukwudi Ezeji, urged the people the South-east to put sentiments aside and join the mainstream politics as it would pave way for the actualization of Igbo presidency in 2023.

“Generally speaking, it is his (Buhari’s) constitutional right to seek re-election, but as an Igbo man, I see it as a welcome development because his re-election would guarantee the emergence of a president of Igbo extraction in 2023,” he said.

But speaking with Sunday Sun, a former governor of Anambra State, Dr Chukwuemeka Ezeife, differed with the duo of Okechukwu and Ezeji as he believes that the 2019 elections would present a better possibility for the Igbo to produce the president of the country than 2023.

“I don’t see the possibility. Indeed, we may be very negative and we may be timid also, otherwise the circumstances of now make 2019 a better possibility for Ndigbo. And I don’t believe that we should be begging people for Igbo presidency. It is my view that we should go and pray to God now because He knows that if we take over the presidency of Nigeria, the Fulanis will be happier, the Yorubas will be happier and every part of Nigeria will benefit when we handle the economic development of Nigeria. Therefore, my recommendation is that we should pray to God. Talking about 2023, it is mission very dicey and anybody selling that to people is trying to deceive them.”

Ezeife faulted the belief in some quarters that the power equation of the country at the moment does not favour the South-East to produce the president in 2019, maintaining that those who beat the drum for power equation only do so when it’s convenient for them.

“What is the power equation you have? How many times have they rotated power to the South-east? What is important for me is that Igbo people should go and pray to their God to forgive them everything they may have committed and give them a chance to save Nigeria. To give Ndigbo a chance to save Nigeria economically is what I’m talking about. When we take over power and I hope the right person takes over, the economy will experience explosive growth and instead of looking for petty things to fight over, people would prefer to be at the frontiers of the economy,” Ezeife added.

On his part, the Convener of South-East Elders Forum (SEEF) and former President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Dr Dozie Ikedife, said the Igbo had been victims of unfulfilled promises in the past and would be circumspect this time around.

“There are so many unfulfilled promises and our people often fall victims to lies. If someone has deceived you for about two or three times, if he comes the fourth time you will have a second thought. One is just tired of this country. What bothers me is how to realise Biafra through legal and diplomatic processes, and through dialogue without fighting or abusing anybody. That’s my position,” Ikedife said.

Like Ezeife, the National Chairman of the United Progressives Party (UPP), Chief Chekwas Okorie, saw the 2023 presidency offer to Ndigbo as the “worst form of deceit”, stressing that only the unintelligent would fall for it.

Violence, malpractices mar Ekiti PDP Ward Congress

Ado-Ekiti-The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Special Ward Congress to elect delegates to vote at the governorship primary which was conducted in Ekiti State on Saturday was marred with violence and malpractices.

Some hoodlums allegedly beat up former Ikere Local Government Chairman, Mr. Banji Aluko.

Governor Ayo Fayose, has adopted Olusola as his preferred candidate ahead of the July 14 governorship poll.

Aluko was accused of working against “Ikere Agenda” by the thugs who flogged him with canes and sticks that were loaded inside a mini bus otherwise known as “akoto” parked opposite the election venue at Odo Oja area of the town.

The hoodlums most of whom were reeking of alcohol and marijuana accused Aluko of working for another governorship aspirant and former Minister of State for Works, Prince Dayo Adeyeye.

Aluko, who was also accused of fraternizing with Mega Party of Nigeria (MPN), allegedly tore result sheet from Ogbonjana Ward believed to have been manipulated, which angered his attackers.

Apart from the beating Aluko, he was also drenched with alcohol as he was forced out of the election venue.

The ex-council boss led a group of youth to the secretariat of the party to register his protest over, was harassed by party members and those following him were beaten with cudgels.

But Adeyeye has condemned the exercise which he alleged was hijacked by Fayose’s agents working in collaboration with the electoral panel deployed from the PDP National Secretariat.

Speaking through the Director of Publicity of Prince Adedayo Adeyeye Movement (PAAM), Chief Niyi Ojo, Adeyeye alleged that the election materials were not taken to the wards for the purpose of the election.

He said: “All over the state, Fayose’s men hijacked the process, they didn’t take the materials to the wards to allow people vote.

“This delegates election should be cancelled, the people deployed from Abuja did not go to the wards, they sat somewhere in the party secretariat.

“It should be cancelled because they are forcing results which do not represent the wishes of party members on them.”

The latest development has left the reconciliation brokered by the National Secretariat among the contending parties in the Ekiti chapter in tatters.

The other two PDP governorship aspirants are Adeyeye and Senate Deputy Minority Whip, Senator Biodun Olujimi.

The PDP National Chairman, Uche Secondus and former Senate President, Senator David Mark, were in Ado Ekiti on Wednesday to mediate between the opposing forces for the party to be united.

Reports from other wards suggested that the congress was appreciably peaceful across the state.

A top management staff of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), who monitored the exercise, said the disagreements were resolved amicably.

The source said: “The exercise is largely peaceful, though there were disagreements in some areas, but stakeholders later met and resolved them. So, from our own point of view, the exercise has been largely successful”, he added

Waku, Shehu Sani, others ask: What was a suspended senator doing in Senate Chambre?

The stealing of the mace by hoodlums who allegedly accompanied Senator Ovie Omo-Agege into the Senate on Wednesday has led many to ask if it was right for a  lawmaker on suspension to be at the chambre or attend plenary.

A  Fourth Republic Senator, Joseph Waku (Benue North West, 1999-2003), who  suffered the same fate of being suspended from the Senate for one week, said: “He (suspended senator) could  only stay in his  office. He could  go to his office but not the chamber.”

Waku spoke against the backdrop of the National Assembly rules which state that a suspended senator should not have access to the Senate chamber or attend committee meetings. Serving senators and political analysts have not stopped condemning the invasion of the chambre and the theft of the mace, with many describing it as an assault on Nigeria’s democratic process.

Senator Olamilekan Adeola (APC, Lagos West), who was said to have almost  been taken away by the hoodlums after he mistakenly jumped into their waiting vehicle, thinking it was his as he scampered for safety, said: “These are people who want to truncate our  democratic process”.

Senator Shehu Sani described the act as “morally and ethically wrong”, saying “the Senate is not a place for that kind of thing”.

Sani described the action as “an assault on democracy and democratic institution and equated it to an attempt to take over an arm of the government. If this is not condemned, it could also happen to the Presidency if it happens to the Senate, because the Senate is an arm of the government. If an action is not taken on this issue, it is going to set a very bad precedence and democracy will seriously be at risk”.

Although  Omo-Agege has come out to say he had no hands in the melee that led to the disappearance of the mace, he has refused to address the question: Why was he (on suspension) at the Senate chamber that  Wednesday?

A public affairs analyst, Soji Balogun, thinks Omo-Agege, by now, shouldn’t be a lawmaker again “for his alleged role in the embarrassing act”. He said: “If it were to be in the advanced society, the senator would have resigned before the Senate takes the bold step of expelling him.”

“For instance, in the United States of America, in 2002, when a member of the House of Representatives from Ohio, the late James Traficant, was convicted of corruption charges, his colleagues in the House wasted no time in expelling him. I strongly believe it’s high time we took our democracy to that level, in order to restore sanity and integrity in lawmaking business.”

What is Omo-Agege’s fate?

With the suspended senator denying any role in the theft of the mace, and accusing fingers  continue to point at him as the man behind  the incident, the Senate is yet to come out with a position on the issue, other than describing the action “as an act of treason, attempt to overthrow a branch of the Federal Government of Nigeria by force, and it must be treated as such.”  Meanwhile, Nigerians have continued to call on the leadership of the Senate to wield the big stick on anyone who may be involved in the incident to serve as deterrent.
