Ekiti Governorship Election Updates
At Iyin in Ekiti, voting started as early as 8.10 am. At ward A unit 12, Okelawe, Olubokun compound, international observers were seen monitoring election process. They came in two Chevrolet suburban vans led by security men.

Full list of 2018 Emmy nominees
“Game of Thrones” led the field for television’s prestigious Primetime Emmy awards with a whopping 22 nominations, including one for best drama series.
Whereas Hulu’s “A Handmaid’s Tale” — which won the award for best drama series last year — earned 20 nods.
Here is a list of the nominees in key categories for the 70th Emmy Awards, which were unveiled on Thursday.
The awards will be handed out in Los Angeles on September 17:

Lagos, Ondo attorneys-general, 29 others make list of new SANs
The Legal Practitioners’ Privilges Committee on Thursday announced the names of 31 new Senior Advocates of Nigeria who will be sworn-in in September.
Secretary of the LPPC and Chief Registrar of the Supreme Court, Hadizatu Mustapha, announced the names of the successful candidates after the 133rd plenary of the committee on Thursday.
Among the 31 successful candidates selected from 106 applicants were the Attorneys-General of Lagos and Ondo states, Adeniji Kazeem and Adekola Olawoye respectively.
They also include the Director-General of the Nigerian Law School, Prof. Isa Chiroma; the Vice-Chancellor of the Lagos State University, Prof. Olanrewaju Fagbohun; the National Coordinator of the Legal Defence and Assistance Project, Mr. Chinonye Obiagwu, and prominent advocates, Mr. Olalekan Ojo and Adeyinka Olumide-Fusika.
Also on the list was Olabode Olanipekun, son of a former President of the Nigerian Bar Association, Wole Olanipekun (SAN).
The only female who made the list is Prof. Oluyemisi Bamgbose.
The rest of the successful candidates included, Oba Abuchi, Essien Udom, Metong Urombo, Prof. Wahab Egbewole, George Igbokwe, Olubowale Taiwo, Oluwole Iyamu, Adekola Olawoye, Stephen Adehi, Oluseun Akinbiyi, Emmanuel Achukwu, Keneth Ahia, Louis Alozie, and Wole Agunbiade.
The rest are Olayode Delano, Taminu Inuwa, Sonny Wogu, Prof. Offorinze Amucheazi, Adewale Atake, Kehinde Ehighelua, Prof. Muhammed Akanbi, Cosmas Enweluzo, and Ishaka Mudi.
Announcing the names on the list on Thursday, Mustapha said the successful candidates would be sworn in at the ceremony marking the commencement of the 2018/2019 legal year of the Supreme Court which is to hold on September 24.
She said 106 lawyers applied for the rank.
She said among the applicants were 83 who applied in the “advocate category” and 28 under the “academic category.”
Of all the applicants, only two were female, and only one of whom was successful, Mustapha said.
“The Legal Practitioners’ Privileges Committee at its 133rd plenary session held today (Thursday), July 12, 2018, has elevated 31 legal practitioners to the inner bar.
“The rank of SAN is awarded as a mark of excellence to members of the legal profession who have distinguished themselves as advocates and academics.
“The swearing-in ceremony of the 31 legal practitioners will take place during the 2018/2019 New Legal Year of the Supreme Court scheduled for September 24, 2018.”
How to register as foreign graduates, NYSC tells 2018 Batch B candidates
The National Youth Service Corp has advised Nigerian graduates residing abroad to use personal digital scanner for thumbprint to enable them complete online registration for the forthcoming 2018 batch’B’ orientation.
Muhammed Momoh, NYSC Lagos State Coordinator, made this known in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria on Thursday in Lagos.
Momoh added that the foreign based graduates could also defer the thumbprint part of the registration until their arrival in Nigeria ahead of the orientation.
“For the foreign based graduates who find it difficult to apend their thumbprint to their registration in our portal, it is adviseable for them to get a personal digital scanner to be able to do that.
“In the alternative, a window is open for them to come home one week after the registration portal closes to be able to upload their thumbprint.
“The registration portal will be closed one week before orientation commences” he said.
NAN reports that the NYSC registration portal opened on July 10 and will close on July 16 while the orientation camp will open on Tuesday, July 24.
Some foreign based students had earlier reported difficulty in uploading their thumbprints on the NYSC portal which was a major requirement for the online registrationl for mobilisation.

Ekiti poll: NYSC DG warns corps members against electoral malpractice
The Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps, Brig. General Suleiman Kazaure, on Wednesday, warned corps members participating in Saturday’s gubernatorial election in Ekiti not to indulge in electoral malpractice.
Kazaure, who was represented by the corps’ Director of Planning, Research and Statistics, Mrs Victoria Okakwu, gave the warning in Ado-Ekiti while addressing the 4,967 corps members who would participate in Saturday’s election.
She told the corps members to discharge their duties effectively and efficiently as well as in accordance with the rules and regulations of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Kazaure urged them to ensure that they identify some of the problems facing them and report immediately to INEC officials to avoid hitches at the polling centres.
The NYSC boss also advised the corps members not to be deceived by monetary inducement offered by politicians who might want to rig the election.
” I wish to state clearly that on no account should any corps member participating in the July 14 governorship election indulge in electoral malpractice.
” Every corps member should not tolerate rigging or any form of campaign at the polling units and whenever you have such incident, quickly report to the security officers around you.
“Also, in a situation whereby there is crisis, fighting and commotion in your polling unit, please secure your life first because we do not want to record death of corps members in the forthcoming election.
” I want to assure all of you that all your allowances will be paid in due time; so I want all corps members to be rest assured that you will be properly taken care of.
” But my advice for all you is to be law abiding, uphold your integrity and be neutral before and during the election on Saturday,” she said.
Similarly, the Ekiti State Coordinator of the NYSC, Mrs Elizabeth Okpongete, appealed to all corps members to abide strictly with all the instructions that they had learnt during their training for the poll.
Okpongete, however, warned that any corps member caught indulging in electoral malpractice would face the wrath of the law.

Kemi Adeosun’s NYSC certificate: Govt has spoken, Lai Mohammed says
The Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, on Wednesday said it was wrong to say that the Federal Government has not spoken out on the alleged certificate forgery involving the Minister of Finance, Mrs. Kemi, Adeosun.
He said since the National Youth Service Corps, which is part of government, had spoken, then the government had spoken on the matter.
Mohammed spoke with State House correspondents at the end of the weekly meeting of the Federal Executive Council at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
He said he had nothing to add to the press statement issued by the NYSC on the matter.
“The government has spoken. NYSC is part of government and I have nothing to add to what the NYSC has said,” the minister said.
Mrs. Adeosun was among ministers and other top government officials that attended the FEC meeting presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama; and Minister of State for Environment, Ibrahim Jibrin, said the opening prayers.
Adeosun, who was accused in a media report that her NYSC exemption certificate was forged, arrived the venue shortly after the meeting had gone into a closed session.
Vice President Yemi Osinbajo was absent at the meeting, as he is currently in the United States of America for a public-private sector collaborative investment roadshow.

Fayose weeps, says policemen slapped, shot at him
Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Ayodele Fayose, has said policemen deployed in the state for the Saturday governorship election stormed the pavilion where the Peoples Democratic Party was holding their rally and harassed him.
The governor, who emerged with a neck brace narrated his ordeal and asked supporters of the party to remain resolute and vote for his deputy, who is also the governorship candidate of the PDP, Prof. Olusola Kolapo.
Fayose,who burst into tears while speaking with journalists said he was slapped, kicked and shot at by the policemen and said the Inspector General of Police should be held responsible if anything happened to him.
“My people, the Lord will fight this battle. The COMPOL MOPOL of Nigeria Police and the AIG ordered that the governor should be killed. I was slapped by a policeman and shot at,
“But I want you to be of great courage. This battle must be won. This is an army of occupation. I want you to stand and remain standing.
“I hope they will not cause 1983 crisis. I call on the international community, Ekiti is under siege. How can I be the governor of the stage and be treated this way? I will go back to the hospital and remain there for a while.
“Stand with Eleka. I am having a lot of pain and I decide to bear this pain because of you, I am pleading with the international community, Nigeria is in trouble. They have arrested so many teachers, may okada riders, they put them in jail. Come and save Ekiti, this is our hour of tribulation.
“They said they have the instruction go kill me and the candidate of our party. They said they have the result they would announce on Saturday.”
