Mother sells son for N300,000, buyer resells at 350,000

A single mother, Ezechi Nwanneka, has been arrested by the police in Enugu for allegedly selling her baby boy for N300,000.

The boy, who has not been recovered, was reportedly resold for N350,000 by one Okechukwu Nyia, who bought the baby from Nwanneka, the mother.

Nwanneka, a native of Akama Oghe village, in the Ezeagu Local Government Area of Enugu State, was said to have been impregnated by an unidentified person.

Following the development, the lady left her family house for an unknown destination, and in November 2017, she announced that she has been delivered of a baby boy.

However, the said baby boy was not shown to her family members, who became suspicious when she reappeared without the child.

Nwanneka’s parents informed the police and investigation revealed that the baby had been sold to Nyia for N300,000.

Spokesman, Enugu State Police Command, Mr. Ebere Amaraizu, who confirmed the development, said investigation further revealed that the buyer, Nyia, later resold the baby to a yet to be identified person.

“The suspects (Nwanneka and Nyia) are helping police operatives in their investigation concerning a yet to be identified suspect whom Okechukwu Nyia allegedly sold the baby boy to at the rate of N350,000,” Amaraizu added.

The police spokesman vowed that the Command was determined to apprehend the yet to be identified buyer and recover the missing boy.

In another development, a mother of three, Uwakwe Nkechi, has reportedly attempted suicide in Enugu by taking rat poison.

Nkechi, who resides at Umuezeoha Ojotta, Awkunanaw, in Enugu South Local Government Area of Enugu State, was said to have attempted to take her life due to some unspecified ‘differences’ between her and her husband.

Amaraizu explained that the incident, which occurred on April 24, had been brought to the attention of the police.

He further revealed that Nkechi was rushed to a hospital in the Uwani area of Enugu, where doctors saved her life.

Amaraizu added that the Enugu State Police Command was investigating the incident.

I’ve moved on –Collins, Nina BBN’s boyfriend

Big Brother Naija (Double Wahala edition) may have ended but its reverberations are still being felt. The results of the actions of some contestants in the house still manifest after the show.

One of the housemates, Nina, is believed to have had sex in the house with another contestant, Miracle. After she left the house, Nina also confirmed that she had sex with Miracle on several occasions. She also stated that she wasn’t sure about continuing her relationship. She had said during an interview, “We had sex several times, yes. But it was just us being human. Me and Miracle have feelings for each other. We cannot hide; we don’t pretend. That was just living our lives in the Big Brother House.”

In another interview, when she was asked if she had been to see her boyfriend whom she was dating before she went into the house, she said, “I don’t think I want to do that. I don’t want any negative vibes around me right me.”

However, in a chat with Sunday Scoop, Collins maintained that he had moved on. He said, “I really don’t want to comment on this issue. I have moved on with my life and that’s all that matters.”

When pressed for further comments, he stressed, “I don’t want it to seem like I’m seeking for cheap publicity and I don’t want the issue to drag unnecessarily. That’s why I haven’t said anything.”

Meanwhile, Miracle has said he is more concerned with making money than exploring a relationship with Nina. He had explained during an interview, “My relationship with Nina does not change outside the house; we are still good friends. I plan to make good use of the friendship with Nina; at least, it will reduce the proximity of female fans and all. With her, it is easier to set the barrier.

“Yes, we are still good friends. We can be (together in future). I have feelings for her but there is time for everything. We are both young now and marriage is not the next thing. The goal is to make money o (laughs). You never can tell what happens though and I hope you know that Nina and I are both from Imo State. So, anything can happen.”

McCain doesn’t want Trump at his funeral

New York – Sen. John McCain has reportedly barred U.S. President Donald Trump from attending his funeral when he dies.

The Arizona Republican Senator loathed Trump so much that he planned to distance him from beyond the grave, reports said.

The ailing Arizona Republican, who has brain cancer, is organising his funeral – and close associates have reportedly told the White House that Trump would not be invited.

Instead, Vice President Mike Pence, who served with McCain in Congress, would be asked to attend the service, the New York Times reported on Saturday.

The funeral ceremony for the former Republican Presidential candidate would be held at the National Cathedral in Washington, D.C.

A stream of politicians, including former Vice President Joe Biden and former Sen. Joe Lieberman of Connecticut, have been visiting McCain at his Arizona ranch and a nearby hospital in recent weeks.

Trump’s long-running feud with McCain has roots in the early days of the 2016 presidential race.

The senator criticised Trump for disparaging Mexican immigrants in the June 2015 speech in which the president declared his candidacy.

Three weeks later, Trump called McCain “incompetent” and dismissed his experience as a prisoner of war in Vietnam.

“He’s not a war hero. He’s not a war hero because he was captured. I like people that weren’t captured,” Trump told an Iowa crowd.

McCain is seen as one of the most respected U.S. politicians, who enjoys a cross-party goodwill among politicians.

He fought in the U.S. military war in Vietnam and was a prisoner of war.

During the Vietnam War, he was almost killed in the 1967 USS Forrestal fire.

While McCain was on a bombing mission over Hanoi in October 1967, he was shot down, seriously injured, and captured by the North Vietnamese.

Taken prisoner after his plane was shot down, he suffered five and a half years of torture and confinement before his release in 1973.

Police recruitment: Applicants to undergo mental, HIV, pregnancy tests

The police have said that the 133,324 candidates shortlisted for recruitment into the Force will undergo a psychological evaluation, HIV and Hepatitis screening while the females would also be subjected to a pregnancy test.

The Force warned participating officers to be impartial and ensure transparency during the exercise which would commence on Monday across the country.

The Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, in a statement on Saturday, warned the state commands to be thorough, be above board and ensure that the exercise is smooth, hitch-free and devoid of any form of corrupt practices.

For the first time, the police boss said successful candidates, after the physical screening, would undergo a written aptitude test to be conducted by the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board to ensure transparency and get the best out of the candidates.

Furthermore, the police said medical examination would be conducted for each candidate in visual assessment which covers far and near visual acuity, binocular vision, colour vision, visual field testing and pathology.

“General medical test, which covers blood pressure, blood sugar, body mass index, Hepatitis B and C, HIV screening, tuberculosis, antigen in serum and pregnancy test (for women only). Others include psychological evaluation of the candidates, which covers psychological interview, personality and integrity as well as drug screening will be conducted on the candidates,” the statement added.

The statement further indicated that the IG had directed the Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Training and Development to monitor and assess the exercise in all the states and the Federal Capital Territory to ensure the conduct of the exercise in line with best practices.

“Candidates are advised to be of good conduct throughout the exercise,” it further indicated.

I gave my daughter blessing when she married a Christian — Senator Binta’s father Tumba Garba, the father of the senator

representing Adamawa North District, Mrs. Binta Masi Garba, said he gave his daughter blessing on the day she chose to marry a Christian, despite being from an Islamic home.

The senator had in April narrated during her 50th birthday how her properties were set ablaze by her father after she became a Christian while she was in primary school.

“My father was infuriated and he burnt everything I had because of my decision to follow Christ. I suffered so much because of the name of Jesus. I would have been nothing if not for His grace,” she had stated.

However, Tumba, a 104-year-old retired military corporal, on Thursday, said his family was a tolerant one which never discriminated against any religion. He added that was why he allowed his children to practise any religion that they wanted.

The senator’s father stated this in Tudun Wada, Michika, when he met with the leadership of the Muslim Council from Adamawa North Senatorial zone.

Stating that they had nothing against his daughter, it was gathered that the meeting was to set the records straight.

With tears in his eyes, Tumba told the gathering that Binta never intended to insult Islam when she converted to Christianity.

He said, “My father was a Christian and I converted to Islam. So, when Binta wanted to marry a Christian, I gave her my blessing.”

He also said that the happiest day of his life was the day his daughter took him to meet with President Muhammadu Buhari, stating that he had tried in time past to meet with the President when he became a military ruler.

Following the meeting, Binta told journalists that she was glad that her father had come to assure the Muslim community that the earlier remark attributed to her wasn’t true.

She also called on her political opponents to judge her based on stewardship rather than religious sentiment.

2019: Peace more important than politics, Abdulsalami tells FG

Former Head of State, General Abdulsalami Abubakar (retd) has advised the federal government to spare no effort in ensuring peace in the country, noting that politics cannot take place in an atmosphere of chaos and unrest.

General Abdulsalami who made history by handing over the reigns of government to a democratically elected government gave the advice at the weekend in his Abuja residence while receiving members of the Northern Leaders and Stakeholders Assembly (NLSA) led by its chairman, Alhaji Tanko Yakassai.

The retired general also noted that though government is charged with the responsibility of protecting lives and property; he stressed the importance of citizens participation in complementing the effort of government in ensuring harmonious co-existence amongst the ethnic nationalities in the land.

He said: “Let’s keep the peace because it is paramount to everything. If there is no peace, there is no nation; if there is no peace, there won’t be any politicking. So, it is absolutely necessary for each and everyone of us to put hands on deck to ensure that there is peace in the country.

“All these senseless killings, senseless criminality that are going on won’t serve any purpose.”

He urged Nigerians to complement government’s effort in tackling the security challenges in the country, stressing that government is not expected to be everywhere all the time.

“Every Nigerian has a role to play to bring peace to this country. Government is not only in the villa and everybody is part and parcel of this government,” he said.

On the killers that have wrecked havoc in the country in the past couple of months, Abdulsalami counselled citizens to help security agencies in identifying the criminal elements in order to tame their activities.
[05/05, 15:28] DAUGHTER OF DESTINY: “Are these criminals Nigerians or foreigners? If they are foreigners, have we reported them, especially when they are coming into the country? Are we giving enough intelligence report? And if they are Nigerians, are they not our brothers and sisters? Don’t we know them? Have we exposed them?” he asked.

He urged Nigerians to remain prayerful to God, adding that prayers could help restore normalcy in the life of the nation.

On her part, former Women Affairs Minister, Hajia Inna Ciroma said the group has been reaching out to prominent northern leaders to get their support, noting that NLSA is a political non-partisan group committed to the wellbeing of the nation.

She denied speculation in some quarters that the group is made up of members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) only, saying membership of the body cut across different political platforms.

“In this group, we are all free to support any candidate that we choose to support. It is not about bringing a candidate that is acceptable to all of us. That is not possible,” she stated.

The group also paid a courtesy call on former Vice President, Architect Namadi Sambo.

Members of the group on the delegation were ex-Deputy Senate President, Ibrahim Mantu, former Minister if Defence, Bello Haliru, and a one-time Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mohammed Abba Gana, among others.

Top 12 things that crash marriages

There are few things that can compare with the ecstatic feeling of being in love. In fact, that feeling gets to the peak when it snowballs into an affair. And of course, marriage seems like the icing on the cake for such persons.

But sometimes, beyond the initial excitement, happy marriages soon run into troubled waters due to the actions and inactions of one of both partners. In some cases, they make up and move on; at other times, the relationship is never the same again and they both have to endure the marriage for the rest of time, while in some instances, it leads to divorce.

Notably, crash in this case does not only imply divorce, but also includes partial breakdown in communication and intimacy.

Therefore, it is somewhat helpful to highlight the top (not exhaustive) factors that lead to conflict in marriages necessarily:

Infidelity: Cheating on a spouse is about the commonest factor that brings about conflict in homes. This is because it is seen as a direct betrayal of trust, which is often hard to repair. Even though men are seen to be guiltier of this, findings have shown that they find it difficult to forgive a cheating wife. They believe it affects their masculinity, questions their sexual prowess, the possibility that they might not even be the father of their children and such thoughts that flood their minds. These make some men to file for divorce while some simply keep a distance from such women. On the other hand, women are seen to be more forgiving when they are cheated on, but sometimes too, things are never the same again in such marriages.

Poor communication: In the past, people hardly saw communication as an ingredient for a successful marriage. People would rather bottle up their emotions and dissatisfaction about the actions and inactions of a partner instead of opening up, until things get worse. It also provides a fertile ground for (wrong) assumptions and frustration, which they sometimes term ‘irreconcilable differences’. This explains why marriage counsellors often say good communication is the secret to a successful marriage, because it enables both parties to raise their concern and creates a platform for resolution. They have also noted that when communication breaks down, the union is heading for the rocks.

Barrenness: This is one major reason people walk out of their marriages. Childbearing is largely seen as a ‘must’ for couples in this part of the world and so their inability to have children could signal the end of that union. From findings, this had led to the crash of many marriages, because sometimes, people, especially men, are compelled to try new partners. And when a man takes a new wife, it oftentimes takes the first union to an abrupt end.

Abuse: This is one other reason people run for their dear lives. It could be in form of physical, emotional, verbal or sexual abuse, all of which oftentimes subject the victim to deep trauma. The impact is almost the same with people who live with partners that are hot-tempered. Given the serious impact it could have on the psychology of such persons, marriage counsellors often advise intending couples to watch out for the trait in their partner.

Poor sexual experience: Some might find this factor laughable, but it is actually one of the reasons people feel dissatisfied in marriage. It could lead to frustration, which some people also term ‘irreconcilable differences;’ it could compel some to start cheating on their spouse, if they can’t hold it any longer and it could breed distrust, especially if there is a noticeable decline, which could fuel the thought that their partners had been doing it with someone else.

A psychologist, Prof. Toba Elegbeleye, also noted that differentials in how they both enjoy sex is important. A group of counsellors and marriage therapists in the United States, with the name, Couples Counseling Chicago, pointed out that “boredom in the bedroom” is another major reason marriages fail because, if not watched closely, it’s one of the primary reasons people engage in spousal cheating.

Inadequate Finance: No doubt, money causes troubles in many homes, and it affects in many ways, including financial imbalance, inability of the man to pay the bills, which could make him look irresponsible, situations where the woman continually pays the bills, etc. Elegbeleye also noted that the imbalance could be an issue. Couples Counseling Chicago said, “Even long standing couples have found their marriage in trouble because of strong disagreements about spending, savings and general financial decision making. Financial inequity; meaning who is bringing what to the table, also are major reasons behind divorce.”

Unrealised expectations: No doubt, people go into marriage for different reasons and expectations. When those expectations are not met, they tend to feel frustrated. In some cases, that is the beginning of a trouble, because they tend to vent their frustration on an unsuspecting partner who could have their separate worries. According to some experts, marrying too early, marrying to satisfy sexual urge, to show appreciation, to douse pressure from parents, to feel among, especially when there is a feeling of being left behind by contemporaries, among others, are some of the common “wrong” reasons people marry. They said relying on these alone could come with a high risk of failure, because after some time in marriage, they tend to see that there is more to that lifelong union than those one or two expectations. Marriage counsellors have also advised that people should moderate their expectations when going into marriage, to avoid utter disappointment if those expectations are not met.

Incompatibility: Sometimes, due to the initial excitement, intending couples do not discuss pertinent issues about their preferences, their plans for the future and the level of desired autonomy. If they marry someone who dislikes their preferred vocation or profession, there tends to be issues. There have been instances where people who are not ready to give up their careers, like acting or other kinds of jobs – sometimes perceived to be too demanding – quit their marriages because of lack of spousal support for personal growth. “The ability to be with someone while also maintaining a sense of independence is a key ingredient for a successful, long term marriage,” Couples Counseling Chicago noted on its website.

Disparity in educational qualifications: This has been observed to be a silent cause of conflict in many homes, especially when the woman is more educated or if one of both parties lied about their qualification. When the truth is revealed, it sometimes leads to serious conflict and sometimes the deceived persons are unable to snap out of it, largely because they see it as a form of betrayal.

Strange habits: It is not uncommon for people to pick up strange habits, like taking alcohols, smoking, homosexuality, after they are married. Usually, it is either that they were able to hide or manage it from their partner during courtship or they picked up the habit newly. People who are unable to cope living with such persons tend to become frustrated, especially if they can’t get the person to drop that habit, and so some end up leaving the marriage.

Overbearing in-laws: In this part of the world, in-laws are seen and treated as an integral part of marriages. Thus, their actions and inactions could sometimes influence the success or otherwise of any union. Elegbeleye said if there is conflict between one of the couples and the in-laws, they tend to see each other as an intruder, and that this could affect the couple on the long run. “Issues of in-laws are a very potent factor, and so people need to pay attention to it,” he added.

Distance: If the popular saying, ‘out of sight is out of mind’ is anything to go by, then it would seem many homes have experienced some troubles because of the long absence of a partner. Apart from the fact that their sexual lives tend to derail, understandably, there could also be emotional disconnect, especially if they do not communicate enough on the phone or through other means. According to Elegbeleye, physical distance is usually a product of job mobility. “If one of the two is always on the move and not always around, it could lead to marriage breakdown,” he added.

Meanwhile, Elegbeleye pointed out that the success of any union is a product of the efforts of both parties. Thus, he advised couples not to take with levity the importance of good communication.
