Underage voting: INEC releases report today

The Independent National Electoral Commission says it will on Friday (today) make public its investigations on underage voting in Kano.

The Chief Press Secretary to the INEC Chairman, Rotimi Oyekanmi, said this in a text message on Thursday night.

He said, “You are all cordially invited to a press conference on the findings of the committee constituted to investigate the alleged Kano Underage Voting scheduled on Friday.”

INEC had  in February set up a committee to investigate underage voting in the local government election in Kano State in which the All Progressives Congress won the 44 local governments.

The report of the committee which was submitted on March 28, was kept secret for several weeks causing the opposition Peoples Democratic Party to accuse INEC of colluding with the APC-led Federal Governemnt to rig the 2019 elections even before the polls.

Study links gray hair with immune system activity, viral infection

Researchers at the National Institutes of Health and the University of Alabama, Birmingham offered insights into why some people’s hair may turn gray in response to a serious illness or chronic stress.

A new study on mice, published in the open access journal PLOS Biology discovered a connection between the genes that contribute to hair color and the genes that notify our bodies of a pathogenic infection.

According to the researchers, when a body is under attack from a virus or bacteria, the innate immune system detects them and responds by producing signaling molecules called interferons.

Interferons signal to other cells to take action by turning on the expression of genes that inhibit viral replication, activate immune effector cells, and increase host defences.

Melissa Harris, the lead author and assistant professor within the Department of Biology at UAB found a connection between hair pigmentation and innate immune regulation.

In this study, an unexpected link was found between gray hair, the transcription factor MITF or Melanogenesis Associated Transcription Factor, and innate immunity.

MITF is best known for its role in regulating the many functions within melanocytes.

The researchers found that MITF also serves to keep the melanocytes’ interferon response in check.

Harris said, melanocyte stem cells were essential to hair color as they produced the melanocytes that were responsible for making and depositing pigment into the hair shaft.

They found that if MITF’s control of the interferon response was lost in melanocyte stem cells, hair-graying resulted.

Furthermore, if innate immune signaling is artificially activated in mice that are predisposed for getting gray hair, increased numbers of gray hairs are also produced.

“This new discovery suggests that genes that control pigment in hair and skin also work to control the innate immune system,” said William Pavan, study co-author and chief of the Genetic Disease Research Branch at National Human Genome Research Institute under National Institute of Health.

“These results may enhance our understanding of hair graying. More importantly, discovering this connection will help us understand pigmentation diseases with innate immune system involvement like vitiligo,” said Paven.

Davido’s Girlfriend Chioma Is Like A prostitute, she’s a disgrace – Nigerian Man Says

It’s no longer news that Davido bought his girlfriend,Chioma a porshe car worth 45 million Naira.

The news broke the internet and has continued to do so ,but a Nigerian man by name Olakunle Alison has this to say about the whole scenario.

Read what he wrote:

A generation of women sold to money slave camps.

Sticking with a man to whom you are not married and who cheated on you with several women, impregnating two of them in the process (baby mamas) whilst dating you, and then became an accidental ‘baby-daddy’ is NOT LOVE just because he bought you a #45million car.

You are a needy, opportunistic, parasitic, gold-digging, low self-esteem sufferer. A Stockholm syndrome patient. You are not loyal. You are a liar. A prostitute and you share some moral equivalence.

The only reason any woman would endure contemptible treatments from a man is because of what she looks to gain materially and financially. Let’s stop ridiculing the word ‘Love’ for the sake of posterity so that they’d be able to distinguish between virtue and vice.

There is simply no virtue in staying with a man who openly disrespects you over a period of years. None. And buying you the moon 🌙 and stars 🌟 will not make up for him treating you like human fecal matter. Money cannot buy moral worth. Rather money distorts moral worth. And that’s what is happening these days.

Permit me to digress a bit whilst I elucidate on point of ethics.

Humans are created with a deep sense of moral worth. This simply means that every human being loves to be treated like a rare and precious stone. It’s just the way our Maker made us. The desire to be loved, admired, desired, respected, treated fairly and kindly is part of our teleology. So when anybody willingly and voluntarily subjects himself or herself to vile and inhumane treatments for other considerations it basically reduces that person to an object rather than a subject. The person has objectified himself or herself.

Believe it or not, what we are witnessing today is one of the unintended fallouts of the extreme faction of feminism: The Moral Self-Depreciation of Womenfolk. After all, the cardinal philosophy of modern feminism is CHOICE and SELF AUTONOMY. So who are we to question a woman who CHOOSES to stay in an abusive but profitable relationship? If she has a right to choose who stays in her body and a right to choose her role in a marriage, why not this?

I once wrote a piece on the tyranny of freewill (choice). Generally, humans don’t have the tool box necessary to make good choices. A man’s choice will only be consistent with his true nature. And man is deeply flawed by nature, hence his choices must necessarily be flawed. A greedy man will always choose money above morals, yet he needs morals more. A dog by nature must bark and a cat moan.

Knowing this, it is therefore suicidal to build an ideology on human choices and self autonomy. Nobody (man or woman) should be self autonomous. In reality, nobody is. Everyone needs a governing and regulatory authority that sets boundaries; both moral and spatial boundaries. This is necessary for the survival of humanity because our natural appetite is self destructive. We need to be delivered from ourselves.

Feminism is toxic not because of its intended consequences but because of its unintended ones, and we are already seeing them play out. If consistency matters, no hardline feminist should be able to condemn any woman who chooses abuse and disrespect over self dignity. IT IS HER CHOICE!

We should not teach our daughters that CHOICE is the best power they have. Knowledge is. With knowledge they’d understand that they don’t just make choices but that their choices make them.

The young lady’s choice makes her a disgrace.

Woman’s corpse in mortuary for 3 years

MEMBERS of Akpaka family of Nimo in Anambra State have expressed worry over the controversy surrounding the death of their only sister, Mrs. Rita Ugwuegbulam, who died on May 22, 2015 at the age of 50 years. To date, the body of the late Mrs. Ugwuegbulam is still lying at the hospital mortuary in Enugu.

In an emotion-laden statement in Awka, the family alleged that the corrupt system in the country contributed to the ordeal it was passing through in the hands of security operatives, pathologists at the Enugu State University Teaching Hospital, officials of the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria and Mr. Ray Ugwuegbulam, the husband of the late Mrs. Rita Ugwuegbulam.

Mr. Mike Akpaka, the representative of the family, alongside his bother and another relation, sobbed intermittently as he narrated the story in Awka and said his family would not wish what it is passing through to befall another family.

Following its dissatisfaction with the way the matter concerning Mrs. Ugwuegbulam was handled by security and medical practitioners, the Akpaka family had petitioned the Presidency,  the Inspector-General of Police, IGP, the Minister of Health, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, among other bodies, to intervene in the matter and ensure that justice was done against those allegedly involved in the questionable death of their sister.

Going down memory lane, Mike Akpaka, who spoke on behalf of the family said: “Our only sister, who was married to Ray Ugwuegbulam died in her matrimonial home in Enugu on May 22, 2015 under suspicious and very questionable circumstances, including a mysterious abdominal incision, which was later found on her body.

“When our brother in-law could not cooperate with us to perform an autopsy in order to find the cause of death, we requested and eventually obtained her corpse from our brother in-law after a prolonged struggle.

“When our brother in-law, Mr. Ray Ugwuegbulam, was not forthcoming and couldn’t offer any coherent or reasonable explanation and as the whole circumstances became shrouded in mystery, we invited the police in Enugu through our lawyer’s petition to the Enugu State Commissioner of Police dated August 25, 2015, to determine the cause and time of death and the necessity for the abdominal incision and if the incision contributed to her death.

“This was when we started noticing signs of cover-ups, manipulations and obstruction of justice from the very public institutions and individuals that we relied on to uncover the truth of what happened to our beloved sister.

“We petitioned the police to get some answers since he wouldn’t cooperate with us. Our brother in-law also went around and tried to compromise some of our unsuspecting extended family members to help rush the burial of our sister at his home town.

“We found out in good time and were able to stop those efforts and had those family members return his money. If our brother in-law had nothing to hide, he wouldn’t be making those sneaky and undercover efforts and would gladly reveal the identities of his accomplices.

“Even though we were compelled to pay for the autopsy by the police, yet, they did not allow us to appoint our own pathologist for the autopsy. However, we were able to get one pathologist to observe the autopsy for us, even as some of the people were not comfortable with his presence.
